Why is it better to buy foods from local farmers?

When you buy food closer to its source, there are multiple benefits.

# You get a fresher product that may not need preservatives.
#Animals on the local farm are loved and fed naturally, they have names
given by their owners, they are talked to, and hugged, they are free
to run on the big fields, socialize with other animals, graze on the fresh grass, marigolds, clovers and alfalfa, which in the end benefit our health tremendously.
#Farmers do not use pesticides or hormones or antibiotics.
# You have a chance to get to know the people and the animals
you are eating your foods from... you will know what goes in it :)
# Your family and especially the children, will love the weekly trip
to the farm, the change of scenery, the cows, chickens, and other
cute farm animals.
# You support a local farm, buying your food directly from the producer,
without the extra costs of middlemen, processors and a big
supermarket.
# There's less pollution from trucking.
# It helps us keep our community together and our families healthier
than when you buy all the processed food from the industrial markets.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST: IF YOU ARE BRAND NEW TO DRINKING RAW MILK, PLEASE EAT YOGURT AND DRINK KEFIR AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE STARTING TO DRINK RAW MILK.

RAW MILK IS VERY BENEFICIAL, AND IT WILL HELP WITH MANY AILMENTS INCLUDING STRENGTHENING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM... BUT PLEASE GET YOUR TUMMY READY FOR THIS NEW WHOLE FOOD. NEVER LEAVE YOUR MILK ON THE TABLE FOR HOURS AND THEN DRINK IT... A FLY OR A MOSQUITO, MAY HAVE LEFT BACTERIA IN IT.

USE GLASS BOTTLES... EVEN IF YOU BUY YOUR MILK IN PLASTIC BOTTLES FROM THE FARMER POUR YOUR RAW MILK INTO A CLEAN GLASS BOTTLE AS SOON AS YOU GET HOME. I HAVE SOME RESOURCES LISTED AS TO WHERE YOU MAY FIND GLASS BOTTLES ON LINE.

THANKS FOR COMING :)
HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR VISIT AND PLEASE JOIN.

Raw Milk 101: The Basics

How It Helps Us:

Reduces/eliminates lactose-intolerance symptoms

Reduces/eliminates allergy and asthma symptoms

Increases immunity to infection by increasing biodiversity of beneficial bacteria in the human gut

Increases availability of vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients

Reported reduction in colic symptoms and ear infections

Reported reduction in autism-ADD symptoms

Tastes great and can be consumed safely if left to sour
(It then becomes natural butter milk)

Why It Works:

Competitive probiotic microflora kill pathogens

Innate immune factors combat infection:
-White blood cells
-Enzyme complements
-Antibodies (Immunoglobulins)
-Lactoperoxidase and lactoferrin
-Colicins and bacteriocins

Food enzymes break down fat, protein, carbs/ sugars, and utilize minerals for complete digestion and absorption

The above protective systems are compromised and inactivated by pasteurization and homogenization.

Immune depression is rampant in America today and causes tens of thousands of deaths annually. Sterilized foods, preservatives and overuse of antibiotics weaken immunity, while Raw Milk helps build strong immune systems like no other food or medication available today.

URGENT Contact Your Representative - HR 2749 House Vote on Tuesday!

The House of Representatives is scheduled for a vote on HR 2749 (The Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009) on Tuesday, July 28 (tomorrow).

HR 2749 will be voted "on suspension", meaning that debate will be limited to 40 minutes and no amendments will be considered. A two-thirds vote will be required for HR 2749 to pass. The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund is asking everyone to contact their U.S. Representatives requesting that they vote against HR 2749.

Industrial food processors and food imports need effective regulation, but this should not be done at the expense of the 'local food system. HR2749 will impose burdensome regulations on small farmers and local food producers including registration fees and extensive paperwork requirements for which many small food businesses will not have the resources to comply. The 'local food system' is not the source of the food safety problems in this country, small farmers and local artisanal producers are part of the solution.

HR 2749 would reduce FDA's accountability while significantly increasing its power. The bill would empower FDA to conduct warrantless searches of business records without any evidence whatsoever that a violation has occurred, to order a quarantine prohibiting or restricting the movement of food in a geographic area. HR 2749 also creates severe criminal and civil penalties with the potential for substantial fines for even minor violations of the law.

Urge your Representative to vote against HR 2749 and support a food safety bill that will target imports and industrial foods while leaving small farmers and local food producers alone.

Three Ways to Contact your Representative:
1. Sign two petitions: FTCLDF Petition http://bit.ly/Oppose_HR2749

and AAHF Petition http://bit.ly/g6IJT

2. Go to "My Elected Officials" at www.congress.org

and enter your zip code to find your legislators. Call and/or send a fax.
3. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to contact your Representative's office.

Natural Prebiotic Foods
Did you know that it is estimated that 60% of your immune system is located in your gut? I'll explain more on that in a minute.

Do you get sick often or are you in almost perfect health 99% of the time?

Most people it seems get sick at least once every couple weeks.

Other people seem to never get sick. Why the difference?

Also, what about digestion? Do you get stomach aches, gas, bloating and other digestion problems frequently or never?

Well, there are tons of reasons for the differences in both areas... including stress levels, types of food intake, sleep quality and quantity, overall general health and fitness levels, and even some factors going back to childhood (such as breastfeeding, the type of diet during developmental years, etc).

What I've noticed for myself personally is that the healthier that I eat as the years go on, the less frequently I get sick, and the less frequently I get digestion problems.

As a matter of fact, my diet has become so healthy over the last couple years that I really never get sick at all anymore (maybe 1 cold per year), and I also can't remember the last stomach ache I had (pretty much never have them anymore).

Besides just keeping fit and healthy in general, I have a little bit of a secret that I believe helps a lot with my immunity as well as digestion, and hopefully this info will help you as well.

One of my major secrets is the heavy use of both probiotics and prebiotics... and this doesn't mean supplements... rather, I get these all from regular natural foods.

Probiotics are basically live microorganisms (friendly bacteria and other good microorganisms) that can be ingested in certain fermented and raw foods. Some probiotics you may have heard of are Bifidus, Lactobacilli, L. casei, etc.

It's estimated that the average person has several TRILLION of these little buggers doing work at any given time inside your digestive system.

Probiotic microorganisms actually like the acidic environment of your stomach and small intestine, and provide a HUGE amount of benefits to you.

Here are some of the benefits that probiotics in your digestive system provide:

*Improve digestion
*Increase your immunity
*Help reduce yeast infections, urinary tract infections, etc
*Reduce chances of diarrhea and/or constipation
*Improve lactose intolerance
*Increase absorption of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients
*Increase production of white blood cells to help reduce inflammation, allergies, and other conditions
*and much more important functions

Keep in mind that taking antibiotics kills off a portion of your friendly bacteria living inside of you, which is why pasteurized dairy products fool of antibiotics contributed so much to our nations week immune system and serious diseases... so you need to make sure to increase your intake of probiotics, if you're ever forced to take antibiotics.

Personally, I would never take antibiotics, unless it was something life threatening that needed to be eradicated. But to be compliant, I have to tell you to do whatever your doctor tells you to do. I will never even touch store bought dairy, which is loaded with them.

By the way, many doctors will prescribe antibiotics a lot of times, even if you have a viral infection (which is pointless), and is only doing you harm by killing some of your good probiotic bacteria in your system and potentially allowing another bug to make you ill now that your defenses are reduced (the probiotics are your defenses).

Make sure to confirm with your doc that you really do have a bacterial infection before allowing him/her to prescribe you an antiobiotic. Even in those cases, you should ask your doc if the antibiotic is really required or if you can get better on your own (which is preferred).

So what foods are good sources of these health-giving friendly probiotics?

A couple major sources are:

*Raw Milk-the richest in prebiotics, enzymes, good bacteria. Raw Milk fights off viruses and infections, neutralizes bad bacteria and strengthens your overall immune system.

I will post as much information on my network about this wonderful, COMPLETE food as possible.

*Yogurt - make sure that the yogurt label says that it has live cultures in it. Also, steer clear of yogurts that use artificial sweeteners or are loaded with sugar and corn syrup... Instead, your best bet is plain yogurt (grass fed and organic if possible), and then add your own fruit, nuts, and stevia to "flavor it up".

*Kefir - similar to yogurt, but more of a liquid form of fermented milk (can have 2-3 billion or more active friendly organisms per serving).

*Aged types of cheese - blue cheese, hard aged cheeses, aged cheddar... all can contain up to 10 billion friendly organisms per serving.

*Kambucha - a type of fermented tea (this has a very strong taste, so consider mixing it with regular iced tea)

*Natto, miso, and tempeh - forms of fermented soybean (the ONLY types of soy that I believe are ok in limited quantities)

*Sauerkraut - probably needs to be homemade as I believe most supermarket sauerkrauts are pasteurized, which kills the friendly probiotics.

*other naturally fermented foods

So as you can see, trying to include a variety of these probiotic-rich foods into your daily diet can go a long way towards keeping you healthy, strengthen your immune system and prevent sickness, and also help prevent digestion problems.

The other thing I wanted to explain was PREBIOTICS. If probiotics are the actual organisms, prebiotics are types of foods that you can eat to help stimulate the growth of probiotics within your system.

Soluble fiber is the main prebiotic that can help the probiotics flourish in your digestive system. Oatmeal, oat bran, inulin (not insulin, but inulin...a soluble fiber), and various fruits and vegetables all help to supply you with prebiotics.

There you have it! Probiotics and prebiotics explained.

Feel free to forward my network url to any of your friends and family that may be interested.

This information is a MUST-READ by everyone that wants to fully understand nutrition and make themselves and their family leaner and healthier for life.

Don't be lazy... be lean.

If you live in South East Connecticut, I can bring some milk for you too, saving you the long trip and gas. I travel to my dairy farmer every weekend. Just email me DRGRACEG@GMAIL.COM and let me know how many half gallons do you need, and if you would like cream, cheese, eggs or anything else. The cost for this will be $15.00 plus the amount of your dairy products.

Sending Cards and Letters to Marines

We need cards and letters from you, the American people, who support our troops.

Please consider working with your office, school, church or organization to make cards or write letters to include in care packages sent overseas. Marines are especially touched by homemade cards from children, or letters that let them know what's going on back home: what books, movies, and music are coming out, or what your day-to-day life is like. Or write a letter to let them know what… Continue

Bill would set milk farmers dry of business

Published : Tuesday, 24 Feb 2009, 10:38 PM EST

* Story by: Bob Wilson

Durham (WTNH) - Connecticut farms that provide and sell raw milk say they may soon see a serious hit. They say a bill that would take raw milk off store shelves would be devastating to business.

Melynda Naples gets up at 4 in the morning, every morning to milk the cows; she does it twice a day.

She sells raw milk, right from the cow into the jug.… Continue

2 Foods that are Fattening your Gut

This is from the www.TruthAboutAbs.com
Ezine I receive. Thanks Mike :)
--------------------------------------
In all of my years of personal training and nutrition counseling, if I had to choose a couple VERY simple dietary changes that have made the biggest difference for my clients in allowing them to FINALLY see fat loss results (and other health problems solved), it would be this following test:

1. Test removing all wheat products from your diet for 2 entire weeks, and take notice of how you feel, look, and your body composition.

2. Test removing all (pasteurized) dairy from your diet for 2 entire weeks, and take notice of how you feel, look, and your body composition.

The best way to do this is to eliminate them both for 2 weeks, and then reintroduce 1 at a time so that you can determine if one of them or both of them are causing negative health effects for you.

Wheat and (pasteurized) dairy are easily 2 of the biggest intolerances that a large % of the population has.

Now this doesn't mean that I'm saying you have to entirely eliminate wheat and (pasteurized) dairy (not raw dairy, that actually benefits your weight loss goals and your health) for eternity, but what i'm saying is that this is an important test to do for about 2 weeks to gauge if you see some dramatic changes in your body fat percentage, how you look and feel overall, your energy levels, and other health issues.

If you do the 2-week elimination of wheat and dairy and don't feel that it helped you at all or made you feel better, than you can probably do ok on moderate amounts of each.

Most people don't realize this, but a large % of the population has at least some degree of intolerance to the gluten in wheat and several other grains. The biggest offender is wheat though, as it's in such a large percentage of the average western diet... from breads, to pastas, to bagels, to cakes, wraps, cereals, etc, etc.

Most people don't have the extent of intolerance that a celiac has, but most people feel much better, improve all sorts of health problems, and also lose fat faster when they eliminate wheat from their diet.

What about me? Do I still eat wheat?

Well, what I do is try to only eat wheat on cheat days which many times means when I'm out at restaurants or at parties, barbeques, etc. Since wheat is so integral in the typical western diet, it's almost impossible to avoid when eating out or at other people's houses.

But I have virtually ZERO wheat products in my own house usually. Anything is simple to avoid at least 90% of the time, when it doesn't even exist in your cabinets!

Now with as anti-wheat as I am, I'm actually a big fan of dairy... However, ONLY if the dairy is raw milk or raw cheese and from grass-fed cows. Did you know that many people who "think" they are lactose intolerant actually can drink raw milk without a problem? This is because the live enzymes and friendly bacteria in raw milk aid in the digestion of the lactose and the proteins in milk. These enzymes and friendly bacteria are destroyed in pasteurized milk, which makes it more difficult to digest for many people.

If I can't get raw dairy, I choose to go dairy-free (with the exception of small amounts of yogurt). That's because I feel that the pasteurized, homogenized milk products are not suitable for long term consumption (but that's another story for another day).

btw, you can always search to see if raw milk co-ops or farms are available in your area on RealMilk.com. You'd be surprised at how many co-ops are available that deliver from rural areas to urban areas. It's important to make sure that the farm is reputable and certified (in some states) to produce raw milk. Most raw milk farms are the cleanest operations in the entire dairy industry.

oh, and for the "germo-phobes" out there... I've been drinking gallons upon gallons of raw, full fat milk for about 6 years now, and I've never once gotten sick from it, nor has anybody else that I know that's been drinking it long term... so to all of these so-called "experts" out there telling you that "there's a reason they pasteurize milk, because it's dangerous if not"... well, they obviously don't know what they're talking about.

People are more likely to get sick from pasteurized milk, because mass factory farms are generally dirtier operations with animals that are in poorer health than grass-fed raw milk farms.

And don't forget the high levels of fat-burning, muscle building CLA in full-fat, raw, grass fed milk (and omega-3's)!

Back from the tangent... I think this elimination of wheat and (pasteurized) dairy is one of the most important tests anyone can easily do to see if wheat and (pasteurized) dairy are negatively affecting them. After all, it's only 2 weeks to test yourself!
